Counseling, Advising, and Information Services Available to the Cornell Community

General Information Services

Carol Tatkon Center

The Tatkon Center is dedicated to serving first-year students, and increasing their success and well-being, by providing academic support, peer mentoring, cultural activities, and information and referral services.

Community Dispute Resolution Center

Provides confidential and free mediation services for interpersonal, housing, minor criminal, family, and other disputes. One party involved in a dispute can call the center, which will then contact the other party involved.

Cornell Information and Referral Center

Primary source of general information for students, staff and faculty members, and visitors. Provides information on events, transportation, athletics, and special programs. Conducts campus tours and provides referrals to sources of more-specific information on Cornell and the Ithaca community.

Cornell Information Technologies (CIT) Contact Center (HelpDesk)

Provides walk-in and telephone information and consultation on computer hardware, software, and systems issues and problems.

Cornell University Library (CUL)

Olin Library is CUL headquarters and can provide information about any member library, including guides to services and resources, and a schedule of service hours.

Environmental Health and Safety

Provides 24-hour response to emergencies; promotes public education in fire safety; provides chemical-safety training.

Gannett Health Services

Provides medical care and counseling services for students and their spouses, and medical care for staff and faculty members. After hours, call 911 for emergencies or 255-5155 to consult with a health-care provider.

Health Promotion Office

Provides information, consultation, and referrals on a variety of health topics, including education programs, workshops, and in-service training on sexuality, alcohol and drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and sexual assault.

Legal Aid Clinic

Provides legal services in civil matters to indigent residents of Tompkins County. Clients must meet eligibility criteria. Aid is provided by Cornell law students under supervision of clinic attorneys.

Office of the Assemblies [campus governance]

This office is the headquarters of the University Assembly, the Employee Assembly, the Student Assembly, the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly, and the employee- and student-elected members of the Board of Trustees.

Office of the Dean of Students

Registration for student organizations, training for student leaders, fraternities and sororities information, crisis coordination and referrals, peer counseling, new-student programs, and other programs and activities for the Cornell community.

Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment

Individual counseling on financial-aid and student-employment questions or concerns. Professional and peer counselors available by appointment and on a limited walk-in basis.

Office of the Judicial Administrator

Receives and investigates complaints about alleged violations of the Campus Code of Conduct. Complaints are resolved by summary decision or by the decision of a panel of the University Hearing Board. An appointment is recommended.

Office of the Judicial Codes Counselor

The office is independent of the university administration and provides free counseling to members of the Cornell community accused of violating the Campus Code of Conduct, the Statement on Responsible Speech and Expression, or the Code of Academic Integrity. Appointment required.

Office of the University Ombudsman

An office independent of the university administration, whose independence, impartiality, immediate access to information, and confidentiality can assist Cornell community members who seek solutions for a wide range of problems.

Public Service Center (PSC)

Supports and expands the public-service initiatives of Cornell community members, including faculty members' service-learning courses and projects. Offers a variety of outreach groups and programs for volunteers, work-study students, and service-course requirements, and helps match needs and interests with community-service opportunities. Advises on creating public-service initiatives and funding local, national, and international service projects.
